He Bore Our Sins PDF Print E-mail
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 When Christ suffered on the cross for our sins, his entire being suffered. That vicious crown of thorns pressed on his brow caused severe pain. They then “smote him on the head” and “spit upon him” Mark 15:17, 19 they then mocked him by, “bowing their knees worshipped him. “While suffering all this he had already been weakened by the scourging ordered by Pilate with the infamous Roman cat – o- nine tails John 19:1.

After being forced to carry his cross, cruel spikes were driven into his hands and feet. His pain- racked body hung on the cross, Psalm 22:16 his experience must have been excruciating. We are encouraged by inspiration to spend a thoughtful hour contemplating the closing scenes of His life in our behalf.

Indeed he was bearing our sins in every way and in every part of his body as he suffered for us on the cross made from a tree of his own creation. This helps us to realize the enormity of our sins, in the sight of a Holy God.

How thankful we should be that the father allowed Jesus to come to his rebellious planet to live and die to pay the penalty of our sins. Because of his sacrifice in baring our sin on Calvary we are in God’s sight dead to sin and alive to righteousness.

The word stripes in our text in 1 Peter 2:24 indicates healing expressed in Isaiah 53:5 he suffered so we would not have to, that healing from sin could be ours in Christ Jesus. During this time of the year many will be celebrating the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Praise God! We serve a risen living Savior who is our mediator and soon coming king.
